Entertaining our community

QLTG is proud to entertain the Queenscliff community and visitors to the Borough, through a wide range of theatre activities.

Plays and musicals

QLTG performs a wide variety plays and musicals, most recently Nuncrackers - the Nunsense Christmas Musical at Queenscliff Uniting Church Hall.

In 2024, we hosted our first Sunday Showcase at The Pavilion. The afternoon brought together a fine lineup of local entertainers and community groups, for a wonderful afternoon of music, song, comedy, dance and drama.

Our annual pantomime is held in the school holidays at Queenscliff Uniting Church Hall. Watch out for audition notices for the 2025 production.

We will be performing in the inaugural Geelong Short Play Festival at Geelong Arts Centre in October 2025.

Page to Stage

Page to Stage is a free play reading night at Queenscliff RSL on the third Monday of each month between February and November. All welcome (age 16+) and no experience necessary - just come along at 7pm for two hours of fun. It's a great way to get a taste of theatre, reading a scene, playing different characters and learning theatre skills. We also support local playwrights wanting to hold a script reading.

Storytime

QLTG runs Storytime for young children and families at the Queenscliffe Sunday Community Market. We run three sessions in the Pavilion from 11am to 1pm.

Pavilion project

We are working hard to establish a permanent home at The Pavilion in Queenscliff. We'll share more news on this in coming months.

Page to Stage finale - you're invited

From soliloquys to scenes

The Page to Stage play reading finale is on Monday 18 November at 7pm, and everyone's invited to present a rehearsed reading in any style.

You can deliver a monologue, recite a poem, do a mime, create a scene - whatever you like. The script can be from a play, TV or film or any other source. Bring a plate to share. You're welcome to bring family or friends too, to enjoy the performances.

Please contact Trina at qltg.org.au or 0433691190 to register what you will be performing on the night, and we'll schedule you in the program.

****************************************

The QLTG committee has postponed the production of Jack and the Beanstalk, which was to be performed in the January school holidays.

Unfortunately, we were not able to fill two roles. Our thanks to the enthusiastic performers who auditioned for the show.

Our panto will be rescheduled until later in 2025.

In 2024, we have staged Sleeping Beauty, Nuncrackers the Christmas Musical, and had the very successful Sunday Showcase which brought together local performers and groups.

We have had monthly Page to Stage play readings and theatre skills workshops running throughout the year, and presented regular Storytime sessions for families at Queenscliff Community Sunday Market.

We look forward to entertaining you in 2025. We'll have more news about coming productions in the New Year.

Fantabulous Nuncrackers musical 26 July - 4 Aug

Nuncrackers, the Nunsense Christmas musical, promises a cracker night - or matinee! - of music, songs, shenanigans and laughs, when we bring it to Queenscliff from 26 July to 4 August.

Our original cast of Sisters of Hoboken from Nunsense (staged in 2019) will be back in their habits at Mount Saint Helen's Convent. They are Jennie Tonzing, Carol Fogg, Jess Dolley and Lisa Hearnden-Jones, joined in this production by new sister Allison Whytcross, young Father Virgil, played by Phil White, and four talented youngsters.

This is the fourth Nunsense musical written by Dan Goggin and our show is directed by Debbie Fraser.

Performances are on Friday 26 July (evening), Saturday 27 July (matinee and evening); Friday 2 August (evening), Saturday 3 August (matinee and evening) and Sunday 4 August (matinee). Matinees start at 2pm, and evening shows at 7.30pm.

Tickets are on sale at www.trybooking.com/CSFIW. The show includes some of your favourite carols and lots of audience participation. Perfect for your group to celebrate Christmas in July - or August!

The show is set during a TV Christmas special being taped in the cable access studio built by Reverend Mother in the convent basement.

Of course, many challenges arise, not least the presents under the convent Christmas tree going missing. The nuns are joined by Father Virgil and four of Mount Saint Helen's most talented students, to navigate the mishaps while thoroughly entertaining us all.

Bryan Hughes and Dean Bateup

It's with great sadness we hear the news of the passing of Bryan Hughes, a past President, Treasurer, committee member and performer with the Queenscliffe  Lighthouse Theatre Group. We would like to pass on our condolences to Cynthia his wife, a Life member and founding member of QLTG and his family, in particular Mel, his daughter who was an active member and performer.

We were also very sad to hear that Dean Bateup has passed away. Dean (pictured below) was a great friend of QLTG, taking wonderful photos of many of our productions. We offer our sincere sympathy to Cindy, Matilda, Harrison, Noah and Fletcher, and their extended family.

Below are images of Bryan Hughes and his many activities with the group.

What a special afternoon

Our inaugural Sunday Showcase on 5 May was a wonderful afternoon.

The Pavilion was filled with music, song, drama and comedy, laughter, conversation, clapping and cheers, as performers and audience alike had a great time. Different groups from the community came together and made connections.

Thank you to everyone involved, from crew, singers, musicians, dancers, actors and raffle prize donors,  to all who came along to enjoy the show. A special thank you goes to Lisa, for her vision and passion to put this show on. We couldn't have done it without you.

Here's a few photos from the day.
